Witchcraft- "The Craft of the Wise"

It is always good to share ones knowledge and experience with others- that forms a powerful thread through the Craft of Wicca- that the ancient wisdom which we have been taught should be shared wisely with all those who seek the circles of the wise.

There are lots of good books available and the Internet has many fine web site with masses of information for you, so I'm going to offer you something distilled from my own experience rather than sharing with you what you can gain elsewhere.

  Why be a Witch? That's the question I'm going to answer, and the subsidiary questions that go with that-

• What benefits does being a Wiccan offer?
  
  

• What can you gain from the Craft of the wise that you cannot gain elsewhere, or from other religions or 'ways'?
  
  

• What qualities does the Craft have that have kept it alive and thriving for so long, in the face of often quite horrific repression in ancient times, and slanderous attacks and vilification in recent years?

Let's start from this: We human beings have a wide range of needs- we have those which are purely practical, such as to eat, to drink, to sleep, etc. We need to spend time with others, we need to spend time alone, we need emotional fulfillment, we need to be loved, and many more needs.

We also need to mark special times in our lives and in the lives of those around us- Births, Marriages, Deaths, times of transition, change times, graduations, successes, failures, and similar.

We need to fulfill the spiritual needs of our lives also- including those detailed above, and which we need to weave into the totality of our lives in ceremonial, ritual and sacred ways.

We need very importantly also, to know ourselves as part of the whole of creation, and to know ourselves as part of the weave of  life, its patterns, cycles and rhythms.

Quite simply Wicca- Witchcraft- The Craft of the Wise fulfills all of these needs better than anything else, and fulfills them all in a cohesive and coherent way, in which no other religion or spiritual way does. 

Wicca also incorporates an underlying philosophy of empowerment- Witches are not victims of circumstance, Witches don't believe in 'luck'- we make our own, and Witches hold to the principle that all of life presents us with lessons and opportunities to grow. Psychologically, spiritually and emotionally.

From this you should clearly see that Witchcraft is a highly sophisticated and integrated system of personal, spiritual, magickal, emotional and psychological development, as well as being both an earth based and respecting religion, and a system through which you can work powerful magick to bring about changes in the world around you 'quite a lot in one 'package' you might think, but it's all there within Wicca for those who seek it.

let me share a piece of prose with you that encapsulates and expresses all of this:- 

DANCING INTO TRUTH

 I am spirit on earth

And I dedicate myself to channeling love and truth into my life
I am a source of light in the living body of creation Ever growing in unity with all
As the Universe and I flow harmoniously in change together

Love is my nature, truth is my will 
The essential masculine and feminine principles

As the God and Goddess in all their forms dwell within me
The ecstasy of their intertwining is the divine spark of life into my inner nature

 I am a wild child, a responsible adult, and a wise elder
I encompass within myself the wealth of human experience

I welcome the fullness of life with its joys and sorrows as I work and play
Calling to memory all suppressed experiences,
I accept them with forgiveness and understanding

I love and do as I will

 The truth of my experience and purity of heart enable me to govern myself
I share a vision with all people building a world based on freedom and co-operation

 The universe flows through me, and I use this power to create, nurture and heal
My love embraces violence and pain, and transmutes them into peace and enthusiasm
I respect the autonomy of each and will not interfere with pity or harm

I create my own reality as I provide myself with the experiences I need
My spiritual nature guides my ego and shapes all I think or say

I lovingly and willingly surrender to the beauty and perfection that I am
I feel my connection with all the facets of this universe-
The earth, the water, the sky, plants, animals, spirits, and other beings
The divine within me recognises and values the divine within you

My mind is a messenger bearing inspiration and intuition
I am sincere, I honour my word, and I fulfill the responsibilities I choose
In perfect love and perfect trust I share the truth within me

Lifes’  experiences reflect my behaviour
As the web of cause and effect constantly reminds me of my path

Whatever I send out returns magnified 
I use this feedback to stay in tune with my environment

 I am healthy, happy and free as earths abundance provides for my needs
I celebrate the cycles of change And recognise illness, adversity and confusion 
as opportunities to grow in wisdom and understanding

 Realising the grace of the divine within, I laugh, sing and dance in the ever-present now

I am birthing a new magickal being within myself
As part of the planetary transformation of consciousness
And evolution of homo sapiens into homo veritas
